It was May, and it was mad…

Our experimental May Madness month was a great success and it was great to see so many faces, old and new, at training over the last month. As promised, we will treat everyone who made a full house to a free drink at our drinks night –  and everyone who came during the month will get their stars! Hope to see you all there.

Zurich vs Zug Match Report

Zurich Netball vs Zug Match Report

Zurich players enjoyed an active Saturday morning of netball at a recent friendly tournament hosted by Zug Netball, with 4 teams in attendance and a full size court to test our fitness levels.

The final of Zurich 1 vs Zug Seniors was a close run game with Zug emerging as the eventual winners. Thanks to all the Zurich players who made it, it was great to see so many people there, to Phil for being our travelling umpire par excellence and the Zug committee for inviting us to their lovely Oberargeri venue – we hope we’ll be back soon!

Sat 24th May – Friendly against Zug & Basel

Tournament: Sat 24th May 9am – 1pm. Order of play TBC.

How to get there: The venue is Dreifachhalle / Music School Hofmatt, Hofmatt 2, Hofmattstrasse Oberägeri. If you are getting public transport, you need to get to the Zug Bahnhof. From there walk outside to the buses and take BUS NO.1 to Oberägeri. Take the bus to the last stop and then you can walk across to the hall.

To get there in time you can get the 07.35 train from Zurich HB then the 08.10 bus to Oberägeri. Several players are driving – please get in touch with your team to see if there are any seats!

Team lists have been sent out – please get in touch with team members to discuss where your preferred positions, etc, are. And see you all on Wednesday for training!

A chance to play netball in… Stockholm

Stockholm International Mixed Netball Tournament – September 6th 2014

Zurich has been invited to attend the international netball tournament being held September 6th in the beautiful city of Stockholm!

Other invited clubs include Brussels and Copenhagen.

Please Note: players will have to organise and pay for their own flights and accommodation – as an example of what this might cost, currently return flights for the weekend with Swiss are 260 CHF, and a hostel bed would be 43 CHF pp per night if sharing a room with 3 others.

Play netball in Zug and cheer on the Swiss National Kader – 3rd / 4th May 2014

Some of you may have heard that Zug Netball will host an International Invitational at the Bossard Arena in Zug over the weekend 3rd / 4th May. An English team (Trafford) will play four full length games against the Swiss Nationalkader. On the Saturday they will play two games in the afternoon, and on Sunday they will play one in the morning and one in the afternoon.In between these showcase games, we are invited to play a social game against Netball Zug team, 2 x 20min halves at the following times:

Sat 12 30 – 13 30

Sun 12 00 – 13 00

The event takes place at the Sportshalle, Bossard Arena, General-Guisan Strasse 4 Zug. This arena is a 5 minute walk from the train station.

We are also invited generally to cheer on the Swiss National team during their games, including our own members Claudia, Christine and Jo.

Leopard’s League 2014…

because it’s changed its spots…

If you would like to take part in the revamped format of the ZNC Summer League, we hope you will sign up many and numerous. The league will run every Wednesday from May 28th to July 2nd, and will involve 30 – 40 mins of training, followed by a 45 minute game.

Depending on sign up, we will have either 2 teams that play 6 consecutive match nights for a “best of 6”, or 3 teams that play 4 matches in a round robin, with the 3rd team umpiring / timekeeping.

In either case, we will try and have large squads so that people can play as far as possible with the same group of people every time and not rely on subs unless absolutely necessary. We hope this will allow teams to get to know each other better, and collectively improve our standard of netball as a club by playing regularly and consistently with the same players in the same positions.

Anyone who can commit to at least 4 out of the 6 nights is welcome to sign up. The Committee will try their very hardest to make sure that teams are as balanced as possible at the outset, but this requires the team on paper to resemble the team that turns up – so please: only sign up if you think you can make it for most of these dates.

May Madness

To encourage everyone to come to netball this fine spring weather, we would like to invite you to join May Madness 2014.

This is how it works:

  • 1. Come to netball on 4 consecutive Wednesdays (April 30th, May 7th, 14th, 21st)
  • 2. We will give you an actual gold star
  • 3. If you come on all 4 Wednesdays, we’ll pay for your drinks at our May Madness social on Thurs May 22nd from 7pm at Iroquois on Seefeldstrasse.

Reasons why you should come to May Madness:

  • 1. You will be in tip-top shape for our forthcoming matches against Zug
  • 2. You’ll feel super sociable seeing all your netball pals every week
  • 3. You will be proud of yourself for getting through Claudia’s horrible fitness drills

We’ll register everyone who wants to take part on the first Monday (April 30th) – see you all there!

Basel-Zurich-Zug Tournament Sat 24th May

What? Friendly Tournament with Basel, Zug and Zurich Netball clubs, hosted by Netball Zug.
When? Saturday 24th May, 9am – 1pm
Where? Dreifachhalle / Music School Hofmatt, Hofmatt 2, Hofmattstrasse Oberägeri.
Who?  Netball Zug have access to a triple gym in Oberaegeri (just past Zug) with matches on a real-size netball court. This is a ladies tournament; all ages and levels are welcome to sign up, including new members.
