Easter Madness

April was another fantastic month for the club. Although we had less trainings with all the bank holidays, we ended off the month strong with a league match against AGNA in Geneva.

The team set their early morning alarms, which have now become a ritual, and set out to Geneva. AGNA took the early advantage meaning the Zurich ladies began to chase right off the bat, and what a chase it was. The match finished 33-30 to AGNA. It’s safe to say at this point that we always seem to end up in these close battles, but as always we had such a fun match and really look forward to playing AGNA again. Our next league game will be on the 10th June against GGNA and will be the final game of the season… meaning it is also one of the deciding games on who will take the Matterhorn Crown, GIN or GGNA?

In other news, May will be a busy month with 2 big events. A group of players will be heading to Stockholm for our first International Tournament in a few years to play the likes of Paris and Stockholm. In additional some of our very own ZNC players will be heading to Cardiff for the European Open with the Swiss National Team. They will go head to head against, Israel, Gibraltar and France. Good luck to all our players in the coming month and keep a close eye on the instagram for all the results!

Hopp Zürich!

Our main highlight of the month was the opportunity we had to host all the Swiss Netball teams in the League for the 4th round of the season! We would like to thank all the volunteers and supporters who came out for a fun day of Netball and we look forward to hosting again next season.

In the league this month, we played for the second time against GIN. It was such a tight game keeping all our supporters and spectators on the edge of their seats. Congratulations to GIN for coming away with the victory 23-17, but don’t worry we are well up for a rematch 😉 Not only did we have the league matches but also we were able to organise a friendly game for any of the travelling teams as well as the Zurich Club members who wanted to play. After a full day of Netball madness the activities continued with a Match Tea full of treats baked by our very own Zurich Netball Club Members as well as social drinks organised in the evening in central Zurich. Thank you to all those involved and making this a memorable League Day.

In February Zurich Netball Club also collaborated with Stiftung IdéeSport an NGO promoting sport across Switzerland for children and young people. A group of coaches went along to show the group of munchkins what Netball is and to help spread awareness of the game in the region. Again thank you to our coaches for taking part and supporting this initiative.

Next month we have the long anticipated annual Peppermill Tournament where Zurich will once again be sending a team to compete in multiple matches against other Swiss teams. Supporters are more than welcome to come along on the 26th March at the International School of Lausanne!

On January 14th our league players headed down to Geneva once again to play for the first time against GGNA. After a strong start in the first quarter from Zurich, GGNA remained on our heels right until the end. The game finished with a Zurich win and the final score at 29-27! Thank you GGNA for the nail biting finish and we look forward to playing again later in the year. The next league match will be hosted in ZURICH, where we will be taking on GIN once again! Feel free to come down and support our league team or join in our friendly match (everyone is welcome). Center pass for the friendly is 11:30 and the league match 13:15 at Kantonsschule Zürcher Oberland, Bühlstrasse 36, 8620 Wetzikon. We will also be planning a little social gathering post match in Zurich City, drop us a message on instagram or an email for more details – all clubs, players and supporters welcome.

In other news to kick start the New Year – Zurich Netball coaches designed a workout each week for those wanting to get back into training. You can still access them on our Instagram page. League Team 3rd December 2022 with AGNA

As we began to wind down for the Christmas break our League Team travelled down to Geneva for the last league game of 2022 against Aubonne. The team played fabulously to win 43-22, congratulations and thank you to all our players, reserves and coaches. Our next match will be against GGNA on the 14th January back in Geneva once again!

SAVE THE DATE! On the 4th February Zurich will be hosting all the league matches on home turf. We would love to get as many supporters as possible, we will be posting more details on the event soon.

For our monthly social, Leah organised a lovely meet up at the Zurich Christmas Market. Where we had the choice of ‘Weisser oder Roter Glühwein’, also known as mulled red or white wine. Some may say, surprisingly, the most popular amongst our team was the mulled white wine! It was great to catch up with old and new faces of the club so keep your eyes peeled for our next social for more fun!

Monte Rosa League

Away Games

On Sunday 29th May, Zürich travelled to Lancy and played their most decisive match of the league; while things became heated, Zürich stayed calm enough to take home a fantastic win! With a final score of Zürich 30 / Lancy 19.

There is no doubt Lancy will be out for a win when they hopefully travel to us at the end of June!

On Saturday 4th June, Zürich played both Nyon and Aubonne in Nyon, and while the conditions in the hall were extreme, our players did amazingly well to beat both teams. Here were the final scores:

Zürich 50 / Nyon 18

Zürich 45 / Aubonne 12

Congratulations to Lyndsay, who was chosen by the other teams as players player!

Final Countdown

It’s only a few days before we can (finally) celebrate being in our new home! On 24th August we will finally be able to ‘warm our house’. Come and join us at 8pm at Schule Kolbenacker. You can find directions to our new location here.

If you are intending to come please let us know by signing the Doodle: https://doodle.com/poll/wgrh2yqmrxm22f8q

If possible please wear indoor shoes or shoes that haven’t been us outside as we don’t want to mark the floors!

The celebrations will continue later when we will go to a local pub for a social drink.

We’re really looking forward to seeing old and new faces there!

If you have any questions please feel free to email the committee at zurichnetball@gmail.com and we will get back to you!

Back to Netball

After what seems like an age, it is almost time to celebrate moving to our new home!

If you remember back to October last year, we finally found a new home for Zürich Netball Club only for the latest lockdown to hit. Now that things have calmed down again we are finally able to have our big reopening and invite everyone back to netball!

On Tuesday 24th August we will be back in the sports hall at Schule Kolbenacker at 8pm for netball, fitness and a lot of fun. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all back. It’s been a long time since all the club members were back together but absence does make the heart grow fonder.

However, it’s not just old members were are looking to welcome back. We are also hoping that all the time trapped indoors with no sports to do has meant that some people in Zürich and the surrounding areas have been wondering about taking up a new hobby or coming back to netball. If that is you then please come a join us!

We plan to have a fun evening with lots of netball. If you have no experience and just want to try that’s no problem. All training will be provided ‘on the job’.’

If you are interested in joining us and celebrating our new home, please make sure you sign the Doodle so we know how many people to expect and we comply to current Covid regulations for track and trace.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at zurichnetball@gmail.com and one of the committee members will get back to you!

Return to Netball

After a long hiatus and many online fitness sessions, we are pleased to officially announce that we are BACK PLAYING NETBALL!

Because of the current restrictions we would still have to wear masks indoors but the weather has been kind to us so we can play outside with posts, a court and everything! We know you are all ready and raring to go so come along and join us this Tuesday at our new home Schule Kolbenacker at 7pm.

As the weather is super hot at the moment, please remember to bring water and suntan lotion with you. We still need to keep a record of attendance because of the ongoing situation so please make sure you sign up via our Doodle link here so we know who to expect.

If this is the first time for you to our new location, you can find directions here. We will be outside so it should be easy to find us!

Check our social media over the next few weeks for another important announcement!

Netball in March!

Last month we had lots of fun, including introducing blokes to netball, Sarah’s 5-mins of core workouts, and a fierce match against Zug. Here is Zurich and Zug in our post-match glory. Thanks for the great competition ladies!
