It’s that time of year again when we move from indoors to outdoors for more netball fun! Despite the storm clouds, Zurich Netball Club had the first outdoor netball session of 2012. Same location as normal, up at the Intercommunity School in Zumikon, but outdoors in the evening sunshine!
Sadly, the weather was not so well behaved when Zurich Netball Club took three teams down to Lausanne for the annual Swiss Netball Championships hosted by Netball Switzerland on 12th May. Only a couple of the games were managed before the tournament was called off due to torrential downpours. The three Zurich teams had enjoyed success and some high levels of netball until the rain came, but luckily the journey was not wasted, and we stayed and played some friendly matches indoors in Lausanne instead. So we still got to show off our brand new kit, freshly delivered. The Swiss tournament will be moved to the date of the netball festival in September, also in Lausanne.
It was the first time that Zurich Netball Club had taken three teams to to the event… at the rate we’re growing now, maybe we can enter four teams by September!
Sunday 13th May saw three Zurich Netball players stay in Lausanne for training with the Swiss Open Netball squad, in preparation for the Netball Europe tournament in Gibraltar in June, and also other members of the club stayed to lead the junior umpiring course, and to take part in the coaching course. All in all a fun weekend of netball, despite the weather!
And to round up, some news from closer to home…. Zurich Netball Club’s second edition of the Lion’s League kick started on Wednesday 16th May, with last league champions Matterhorn taking on Eiger. Final score 37 – 18 to Matterhorn, who are clearly still on their winning streak… some great netball, some great competition! More to follow! The second edition of the Lion’s League has four teams, so we welcome ‘Rigi’ to the competition. Watch this space for updates from the matches.
If you’re still thinking of joining the club, then it’s not too late to get in touch!
