Well done to Afke, Ann, Christine, Jess, Leah, Marie, Rhia, Rosie and Tia of Team A – and many thanks to Phil and all players who gave up their non-playing evenings to umpire, note scores and keep time: it’s very much appreciated. And thanks to Chriglä for amalgamating the score cards to make the results!
Turnout was much better this time and we hope you all had fun! If you have any feedback about the League, please feel free to email the Committee and we will take a note of your comments for future league organisation.
It’s been an exciting year for netball in Zurich and in Switzerland, with Zurich bringing home the Peppermill national trophy for the second year and with Switzerland climbing the international world ranking tables!
Happy trialling!
An enormous congratulations to every member of Zurich Netball Club who went along to the Peppermill Challenge, Switzerland’s national competition, and brought home the trophy for the second year in a row! To all the girls on the winning team, congratulations, and to all the girls on the sidelines cheering their hearts out, we owe you one too! The grand final against our greatest friends and rivals, Zug, was a very tight game resulting in a 9 v 7 win for Zurich. We’re very proud to be really increasing the notoriety of Switzerland’s east! GO ZURICH!!!
On Saturday 21st September, a team from the Zürich club, along with a team from Zug, woke at the crack of dawn and headed off to Basel for a fun morning of netball.
Three friendlies were played over the course of the morning: the tensest match was probably the final one between Zug and Zürich, ending in a thrilling 19-all draw! We managedto gain a victory over Basel, so well done to all our players!
Thanks Basel for the organisation, the umpiring, the use of the sports hall, and for a trolley of snacks to keep everyone’s energy levels up! It was really lovely to have a venue so close by where we could play netball against other clubs and get some real match experience.
Thanks to Lara for the update!
We’re now taking orders for Kit and Hoodies…
Zurich Netball kit is smart blue and white, and if you want to take part in tournaments over the coming year, now’s your chance to get kitted up!
We also have some cosy hoodies – perfect for ski season. Hoodies are white with blue logo.
How much is it? Ladies Top: 32 CHF // Ladies Skort: 29.50 CHF // Hoodie 58CHF
*We also can order men’s kit if anyone needs – let us know!
How to order it? Fill in the order form and transfer payment to the Zurich Netball bank account with a note marked Kit Payment + NAME by 28th October
I have a question! Email zurichnetball@gmail.com and Anna will try and answer it.
We’re always looking for new members, so if you have any colleagues or friends who want to come along, just tell them to turn up and email us at zurichnetball@gmail.com to let us know they’re coming.
Everyone is welcome, whether they’re beginner or advanced players. If you have a noticeboard at work you could put a poster on, let the Committee know and we’ll send you it.
We had some constructive and thoughtful feedback from members about the last League, so thanks to everyone who contributed their thoughts!
In response to the feedback, we will run the Winter League with one long game every match night. Teams will be expected to provide umpires and time-keepers/scorers on the nights when they don’t have a match.
We have also decided on dates for the whole league so people are aware of them when they sign up – we hope this will encourage attendance at matches, reduce forfeits and ensure more balanced teams. (This is based on 3 teams, so that each team can have a big enough squad to field the minimum number of players for every match)

A big congratulations to all the guys and girls (yes both!) who competed in the International Tournament in Copenhagen recently. Eight teams competed for the title, which was deservedly won by the home team. Zurich Netball Club were very proud to send two teams to compete against Copenhagen (x2), Stockholm (x2), Paris and Geneva.
We managed to come in a hard-won third place after Copenhagen and then Stockholm, and after a very tough game against Geneva, our second team came in eighth. We were very proud to be able to display such brilliant sportsmanship from every one of our players, and it was clear that we all were there to have a great time and enjoy the sport we all love.
Well done, Zurich!
If you need some sporting competition to ward off the October blues, the Peppermill Netball Tournament is here to help!
Here’s what you need to know…
What is the Peppermill Tournament? The Peppermill Tournament is run by Netball Switzerland and is open to women’s teams from across Switzerland. It was originally scheduled to take place in Zurich in April 2013, but horrendous weather meant it was called off. It will now take place in Geneva where there are some indoor facilities.
When is it? Saturday 12th October 2013
Who can go? It’s a ladies-only tournament but all levels are welcome. You just need to sign up here
Where is it? Salles des Fêtes, Moillebin et des Sports, route de Moillebin 20, 1256 Troinex – this is a suburb of Geneva, about 20 mins drive from the centre.
When does it start? Arrive by 9.30am; start at 10am. Finals at 5pm.
Do I need to book a hotel? If you can cope with an early start, the 6.04am train from Zurich HBF will get you there in time. Otherwise, you can discuss sharing accommodation with your team.
Once we have everyone signed up, we will be in touch with the players who are going to organise travel, accommodation and who will be in which team.
Any questions, just let the committee know!
